Fall Meal Planning

Farmers' Market

It is coming to the end of September and Fall is upon us.  What a great opportunity to experiment with some of the fresh produce your local farmers have on hand.  Most cities still have Farmers markets on the weekends with a large variety of produce to choose from.  Not sure what is still fresh and in season? 

Here is my list of favorite Fall vegetables:

  1. Belgian Endive
  2. Broccoli
  3. Brussels Sprouts
  4. Cabbage
  5. Cauliflower
  6. Celeriac
  7. Onions
  8. Pumpkin
  9. Spinach
  10. Squash
  11. Yams
  12. zucchini

  Fall is my favorite season because of the large variety in fresh produce available.  It is my opportunity to put my Chef skills to work and cook some of the dishes that I have craved; Pumpking soup, Braised Apple and Cabbage with cinnamon and red wine vinegar, Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Shallots and Garlic, and the list could go on for ever…

When you are planning your meals for the day, don’t forget to include a variety of vegetables at each meal to go with your lean source of protein.  As well, leave your starchy carbs to the meals earlier in the day, so you are able to burn those calories before they are stored as fat.

  Nervous about cooking something you have never tried before?  That is the best part of experimenting in the kitchen.  Choose a vegetable you have never tried before, search out a great recipe for it and give it a try.  Sometimes that is how a new favorite meal is discovered. Below are some websites that I frequent looking for some great recipe ideas that are low in carbs, and high in protein and vegetables.
