What have you done today? Have you exercised, eaten healthy balanced meals, had enough sleep or even took some time to have a little fun? It is getting closer to New Years and everyone is quickly coming up with the usual New Years Resolutions. But instead of looking ahead to next year, stop and look at today.
As a Personal Trainer, I hear the same thing from clients this time of year, “but it’s the holidays and I haven’t had time to work out.” To truly find success and stay as fit as possible, you need to put the excuses away and stick with the plan. Just think about all the hard work you have done for the past year, and how much progress you have made, but in a matter of days it is all wasted away.
The best course of action is to keep active, and stick to the plan. You can still go to the parties you want or the big family dinners, but get need to get your exercise in for the day. A good way to meet this is by setting an appointment for yourself. Put it in your calendar as well as anything else you need to do, and chances are it will get done. You will feel better for doing your workout than not.
This is also a great time to take your workout outdoors. There are plenty of things to do in the winter that are a lot of fun and can be done with friends and family. Try snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and hiking (for those of us who don’t get snow). As well, this is also a great opportunity to get involved with outdoor running groups as most are getting started on new programs.
What have you done today? Start by making that appointment for yourself!
